Sleeping Beauty

Today, August 15th, Catholic Spain celebrates the Festividad de la Mare de Déu d’Agost, a national holiday commemorating the ascension and assumption of the Virgin Mary. You don’t have to be particularly religiously minded to enjoy the festively decorated and sometimes pompously laid out Sleeping Virgin sculptures, here in Felanitx and all over the island of Mallorca and, in fact, all over Spain, often of Mediaeval origins. The photo was taken in Felanitx, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: August 15th, 2014.
