Saint Christopher And The Blessing of Cars

Last Saturday, July 12th, saw the annual blessing of cars, lorries, mopeds, motorbikes and every other conceivable land-based vehicle in Felanitx, even though the official saint’s day (Sant Cristòfol) would have been July 10th. Elsewhere in the world, the same saint is not celebrated until July 25th, or has been venerated in Orthodox Churches on May 9th. In any case, St. Christopher is a widely popular saint, especially revered by athletes, mariners, ferrymen, and travellers. The photo was taken in Felanitx, Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: July 12th, 2014.
