The Mallorcan Donkey

The Mallorcan donkey is in acute danger of extinction and of becoming an endangered species. Even though there is a long standing tradition of having donkeys, here on the island of Mallorca, for farming purposes, it is said that this tradition is in decline, as is so much else here, in matters related to agriculture. Where there were perhaps 2,000 donkeys in existence in Mallorca, say, twenty years ago, now there seem to be less than 200 burros or so around. Yes, there may be a few more if you count mulas (mules) which are not really donkeys but, an offspring between a male donkey and a female horse. The photo was taken near Portocolom (Felanitx), Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: March 9th, 2014.
